History
Carolyn Spargo
was invited to attend a meeting of the
Swedish Council of America at Luther
Seminary in
August 2004, by Elise
Peters of Illinois. The evening
program was wonderful with the acapella
group, The
Lingonberries performing.
Margareta Beyer also
attended the
concert. After talking intensely that night
on the telephone, Carolyn and
Margareta started the
idea of a
Swedish women's chorus being born out of
the American Swedish Institute.
Within a few
weeks, the ASI Cloudberries pushed up
through the ground. Within three months,
the ASI
Cloudberies were singing at
the ASI. Since then, they
have sung at
the ASI midsummer celebration,
Christmas Fair, SWEA Internation June
event,
private organizations,
Valborgmässafton and
Spelmansstämma
at the Gammelgården in Scandia,
Minnesota. In 2006, the highlight of the
ASI
Cloudberries was 5 members riding
to Illinois to
participate in the
American Union of Swedish
Singers
convention which the ASI Cloudberries are
a member of.
